"Deadly new Ichthyo in Europe!
10.11.2005
Since the end of 2004 there have been increasing reports from aquarium-keepers, pet shop retailers and fish importers that
white spot disease no longer responds to treatment with the customary medicines.
Research shows that new strains of Ichthyo have appeared which are resistant to the usual medicines. White spot disease (Ichthyopthirius multifiliis) is caused by ciliates (ciliata, ciliated infusoria). Ciliates pass through several stages in their life cycle and can only be destroyed by medicines in the free-swimming, swarming stage.
Raising the water temperature accelerates the progress of the stages and increases the chances of the bacteria being destroyed by the remedy (for example, JBL Punktol). The addition of salty preparations, such as JBL Ektol crystal, causes the bacteria to be rejected by the mucous membrane of the fish and more effectively destroyed by the preparation itself. The JBL Research and Development team, in cooperation with some of the leading fish importers, has been successful in finding a treatment method which is effective against the new, resistant strains: A combination of a full dose of JBL Furanol, a half-dose of JBL Punktol and also a half-dose of JBL Oodinol will successfully combat the disease!"
